Arts in Community Grant Awarded to Parkview Community Center
The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission recently announced that the Parkview Homes Community Center, in affiliation with the University of Georgia College of Education will receive a $1,500 grant for a literacy center.  In the fall of 2017, the College of Education at the University of Georgia and the Athens Housing Authority entered into a cooperative partnership to allow members of the Department of Language and Literacy Education to start a community literacy center at the Parkview Community Center.

This partnership aims to build a hub for community-based literacy programming and activist research training across multiple properties of arts-based advocacy. The grant is being awarded for a proposed mural project that will involve a semester-long engagement between middle and high school youth in Parkview, UGA graduate students, as well as a teaching artist, who will be paid through the grant.
