The Athens Housing Authority spearheaded the program for the community in 1990 has been consistently running it since then. This year, the Foodbank of Northeast Georgia will be aiding with the Summer Food Service Program. Last year, the Housing Authority and the Foodbank joined forces to manage the program.
As always, meals will be provided to all children aged three to 18 years free of charge. Because many of the serving sites are day camps, at summer programs, all children and youth enrolled in the program will have lunch provided. However, those who live near the serving site may also have lunch by arriving at the site at
lunch time. All lunches must be consumed on site and participants should let the site director know how often they plan to attend the Summer Food Service Program in order to plan for the number to be served each day.
The Summer Food Service Program will serve lunches from May 29 – July 18, 2018. Lunches will be served between 11 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Serving times will vary by site. The Summer Food Service Program ensures a nutritious meal each day and can help families save on grocery bills this summer.
